How did you first discover Bikram yoga?

A friend told me about it in late 2007. It sounded like an intense workout, so I decided to give it a try. I took my first class (taught by Michele) in January of 2008.

What have you gained from your yoga practice?

I’ve learned to be patient as progress takes time (months and years!). This was hard for me as I’m not the most patient person! I’ve learned the value of breath. The harder the class, the more I focus on my breathing.

What has been your greatest struggle or accomplishment?

My biggest accomplishment was regaining the strength and flexibility in my knee after a skiing accident when I tore my ACL, MCL, and meniscus. Two weeks after surgery, I walked into class wearing an enormous brace. I saw the words “…never too sick to start from scratch once again” and thought, “I guess I’m going to find out if this is true.” Thanks to the guidance from our awesome teachers and the support of my fellow yogis, my practice is better now than it was before my injury. Thank you, BYSJ!!

What advice would you give new students or those struggling with their practice?

Stick with this yoga. It’s hard, sweaty work and never gets easy, but it’s the best thing you can do for your body, mind, and spirit.

What do you like to do outside of yoga?

I’m an avid hiker (I❤️Tahoe), gardener, DIYer, and Peloton rider. I enjoy reading, watercolor painting, and spending time with my family, especially my two little grandsons. My friends tell me I have crazy good energy. It must be the yoga!
